made by a mom who loves nothing better than a good story.

Made by Margaret is a small, home-based sewing studio on the East Coast, where well-loved quilts and other family-cherished textiles are thoughtfully transformed into beautiful, wearable pieces.

Each piece is one of a kind, stitched by hand (by me!) and made to be worn for years to come; breathing new life into pieces that may have been otherwise lost.

This sewing studio began after I retired and stepped into a season that, unexpectedly, left me feeling a bit lost. After decades of caring for others and keeping busy, the quiet felt unfamiliar. It was sewing that helped me find my way back to myself, reconnecting me with people in my community in the way my job used to.

Even more exciting, it’s connected me to people from around the world when they send me textiles they are hoping to have transformed into new, wearable pieces.

Everything I make is made slowly and intuitively. I don’t use patterns and no measurements; everything is done by eye and by feel, guided by experience and an instinct I’ve developed over a lifetime of sewing. Please say this is my true gift: the ability to shape cloth into something that feels right the moment you put it on.

Every piece is entirely one of a kind. Once it is made, it cannot be repeated. What once lived folded in a cedar chest or linen closet is given new purpose: something to be worn, lived in and passed on again. My work is rooted in patience, respect for materials and the understanding that beauty only deepens with age.

Thank you for trusting me with your families' stories.
